Day 304: How-to

Wanted to do a quick tutorial on how I edited my Day 304. Edited the photo using PS CS3, and written in super lazy language so it might be a bit confusing to someone using photoshop for the first time. Tried to be as detailed as possible, but if you have any questions feel free to ask!  Oh and as always, you can click on any of the pictures to view larger.

here’s the before and after – I didn’t touch any of the colors in the “before” photo.. just dodged the whites of my eyes a bit, burned my pupils (using the dodge and burn tool of course) and made my lips “redder” because I knew I would be switching to much cooler tones it would diminish the red a lot.

And here is a screenshot of the different layers we’ll be working with.  I will explain the attributes of each layer so you can play around with it to get more or less a similar effect.

Step 1: Add a new layer above your Background Layer. Fill it with #1a415f and set the blending mode to Exclusion with opacity at 100%.

Step 2:  Add another layer above Layer 1 and fill it with #c3def2 and set the blending mode to soft light with opacity at 50%.

Step 3: Create another layer (Layer 3) and fill it with #fdf9f3. Set the blending mode to Multiply with opacity at 35%

Step 4: Create a copy of your background layer and put it above Layer 3. Set the blending mode to Soft Light with opacity at 85%

Step 5: Create a Color Balance Adjustment Layer above the Background Layer. You can do this by clicking this button shown below

Set the values according to the screenshot below.

Step 6: Create another adjustment layer, this time for Hue/Saturation. Set the saturation to -100 and change the blending mode for this layer to soft light.

ANNNNNNNNND you’re done! You can play around with the blending modes or change the opacity of the layers to achieve different looks. Let me know if you used it; would love to see the results. ;]

Testing Testing

Super diggin’ overexposed photos these days.. probably because my Panasonic point and shoot does so without fail. Maybe something about working with something that failed that titillates me.  This is day298ofmy365daysprojectthatseemstotakethecourseofthreeyearsproject. Tis okay, I make my own rules. And abide by them. :]

i feel strangely at ease these days. i don’t know what it is – but even though everything sucks (really, really, bad) i just get this weird feeling that everything’s gonna be okay. things are also rapidly changing around me; and usually i’m suuuuuper uncomfortable with change. i try to avoid it, if at all possible. but i’m rollin’ with it these days and it’s actually quite exciting! maybe i’m finally growing up. anyway, since i feel super bad ass and i have photoshop back (yay!) i felt a self portrait was in order to reflect how i feel.

i should post up a picture of my ghetto light set up one of these days.  i use it so often that i don’t really know how to do much else. 🙂

In search of…

the perfect red lipstick. my goal this year is to wear it out at least once – i just haven’t found the right one yet. 😉 after messing around with photoshop, i’m thinking it’d be nice if it had a slight orange tint to it.  make-up people! help me out! i need suggestions. lol.

Artist’s Rendition

The cool thing about Flickr is that you get connected with artists from all over the world. And sometimes – people are kind enough to do cool renditions of your work. =) Here’s one i got recently –

My version:

Kami’s version:

More of his work can be seen on his Flickr here Thanks, Kami for  your awesomeness. ❤

Totally neglected this blog for awhile. Life has been.. interesting the past couple of weeks and the dust is finally  settling.  I think.

Thank You

Thank You David, for featuring me on your 365 Days Project facebook page! David has been documenting his life with the 365 Days Project for almost 3 years now. Truly an inspiration, I can’t even manage to finish one at the moment. You can view his project here or access his facebook page here

For those who are unfamiliar with the 365 Days Project – it all started with this flickr group. It’s simple – a self portrait every day for one year.  I get a lot of questions on flickr about my awesome journey with this project, so I’m going to answer all of those questions in a future post and introduce you to some self portrait artists that never cease to amaze and inspire me daily. For those who are just picking up their cameras and do not know where to start – I highly recommend starting this project. Why? That will have to wait for another post – because I only had 3 hours of sleep and I’m thiiiiiiiis close to collapsing. =)

A Moment of Silence

A Moment of Silence

This is my most recent self portrait, a remake of Day 114.
