Day 304: How-to

Wanted to do a quick tutorial on how I edited my Day 304. Edited the photo using PS CS3, and written in super lazy language so it might be a bit confusing to someone using photoshop for the first time. Tried to be as detailed as possible, but if you have any questions feel free to ask!  Oh and as always, you can click on any of the pictures to view larger.

here’s the before and after – I didn’t touch any of the colors in the “before” photo.. just dodged the whites of my eyes a bit, burned my pupils (using the dodge and burn tool of course) and made my lips “redder” because I knew I would be switching to much cooler tones it would diminish the red a lot.

And here is a screenshot of the different layers we’ll be working with.  I will explain the attributes of each layer so you can play around with it to get more or less a similar effect.

Step 1: Add a new layer above your Background Layer. Fill it with #1a415f and set the blending mode to Exclusion with opacity at 100%.

Step 2:  Add another layer above Layer 1 and fill it with #c3def2 and set the blending mode to soft light with opacity at 50%.

Step 3: Create another layer (Layer 3) and fill it with #fdf9f3. Set the blending mode to Multiply with opacity at 35%

Step 4: Create a copy of your background layer and put it above Layer 3. Set the blending mode to Soft Light with opacity at 85%

Step 5: Create a Color Balance Adjustment Layer above the Background Layer. You can do this by clicking this button shown below

Set the values according to the screenshot below.

Step 6: Create another adjustment layer, this time for Hue/Saturation. Set the saturation to -100 and change the blending mode for this layer to soft light.

ANNNNNNNNND you’re done! You can play around with the blending modes or change the opacity of the layers to achieve different looks. Let me know if you used it; would love to see the results. ;]

Maybe even some tips about photography (the do’s and don’t or something), you know? Looking at your work, I gotta say, you’re really good!

this is what i came up with. Instead of using soft light for the 4 layer, i used hard light, but everything is the same =)
        thanks again for this post!
